the kiddos!

Due to overwhelming response to the bedtime story Antone and I did this past Sunday we will be doing it again - this time with both the kiddos!  If you’d like to join in then make sure you you’ve liked the Big Ryan’s Tall Tales Facebook page and tune in at 7:00pm on Sunday.  We will be reading a story or two and saying hello to anyone joining in!  Watch while we are live and say hello!  These are in celebration of the Raising a Reader programs continuing at:

  • Plympton Library, Thursdays at 1:30pm
  • Holmes Library in Halifax at 1:00pm

Make sure to come and enjoy some personal time with Big Ryan!  The Raising a Reader series is brought to you by the South Shore Family Network.

 this week

Another week into 2015 and I have been feilding many calls for new winter shows - but also a ton of spring and even summer shows already!  I look forward to a new year of tales - but I also recieved one of the best emails!  It came from the Children’s Librarian at the Kingston Library who had a very special request:

“I am thinking forward to the summer (oh boy), and this year the theme is “Every Hero Has a Story” and I was wondering if you would like to do a one-session story telling (or writing) program around the HULK?

As most of you know, if you come to this site, I have been busy performing the Preschool Building Stories in many of the surrounding libraries.  Building Stories, though, started as a writing workshop for elementary school children from the first to fifth grade.  I love the writing workshop as I get to see children’s eyes get excited when given an assignment of creative writing.  They have the opportunity to create something straight from thier mind.  Now, with this challenge, I get to base the ideas around my favorite comic character of all time!  I will be discussing this with the Kingston Library a bit and secure a date for this super great idea!  Details to follow!

Also, speaking of the Building Stories, we are entering our third week of the workshops at the Carver and Plympton Library - so if you haven’t had a chance to come to one - let this be the week!  Here is this week’s schedule:

  • Wednesday: Bright Horizons at 10:00 & 10:30
  • Wednesday: Week 3 of Preschool Building Stories at the Carver Library at 4:30pm - This week: Making Puppets!
  • Thursday: Week 3 of Preschool Bilding Stories at the Plympton Library at 4:00pm - This week: Making Puppets!
  • Friday: ECDC Nursery School at 6:30pm
  • Saturday: Arnone School at 11:00am

As always, the Preschool Building Stories Workshops are open to the public and all are welcome to join whether you have come to earlier session or not! Please check the Upcoming Shows page for more information on all of these shows.

Places I will be visiting this week:

  1. Bedford, NH
  2. Carver
  3. Plympton
  4. Sherborn
  5. Brockton

The Plympton Halifax Express ran an article on my Preschool Building Stories that took place in November at the Holmes Library.  I know I had a blast but it’s nice when you get a letter thank you for doing your job.  Even better, it’s nice when your job is trying to get people to enjoy telling stories more and more!

The Crazy group

The final workshop in the 4-week event has wrapped up.  This group might have been my favorite thus far with many, many fantastic stories pouring out of these kids that were both creative and well defined.  Each group seems to be more and more enthusiastic and that’s one of the best things to see!  I always look forward to doing a new workshop - and groups like these keep me wanting to never stop!

getting down to work

I can’t believe it!  Really, I just can’t!  I haven’t had much time to get to my office this summer - sadly - so I haven’t been able to update my site much.  I do have a little time tonight where I can remind everyone to sign up for the Building Stories Workshop at the Jonathan Bourne Public Library starting on the 23rd at 1:00pm - it only runs 2 weeks - but it will still be a ton of fun!  Make sure you call today!

I will also start a Building Stories Workshop at the Kingston Library on the 30th at 5:30pm.  This will run the full 4 weeks - it’s a great opportunity to get your kids into the spirit of fun, creative writing and ready for school to begin (in week or so after the workshop ends… can you believe it?)

Keep in mind - take a look at the Upcoming Shows Page for all the remaining Summer shows - try to make it to them all!  The pics are of the Johnny Appleseed statue at the Johhny Appleseed rest stop in Leominster.  The pic below is because I can’t help myself sometimes…

Starts TODAY! Well, more accurately, this evening. Call the library if you’d like to register and join us. Click the link below for more information - see you tonight!
