This week…

this week

This is a bit of a crazy week and I am looking forward to all the traveling! Some of the schools and libraries are annual visits and a couple are new places. I am very excited for the warmer weather but even more excited to visit all the programs that are wrapping up this school year. I still get flashbacks to my last days of school and how excited we all were about the few free months ahead. Of course you can tell the school year is ending just by the energy level of all the children in the crowds. They can hardly contain themselves and the excitement is all that much more enjoyable to feed off of to present a fun filled show!

There are more shows added to the calendar – so take a look and mark your calendars – hopefully I am coming to see your town soon!

I am also running a special this year – if you have booked for the summer just call and mention this post – you will get a “back to school” Fall show for just $100. The offer is good for shows from Sept 1st – Oct 8th. Call TODAY! (508) 641-5336.

I began this adventure 16 years ago. I was working in Marshfield at the Head Start program when I decided to try out a living telling tales to willing participants. I’ve enjoyed every moment thus far and look forward to the years to come. This Saturday I turn 40 years old. I was just 24 (for all those math majors) when Big Ryan’s Tall Tales began. Seems like an entire lifetime has passed. I have seen thousands upon thousands of children, visited thousands of schools, and met some of the best people on the planet. Every year I strive to keep making children laughs with the silly thoughts that enter my mind.

This week I return to the Wood School in Fairhaven as the “prize” for the children who’ve read the most books during the school year. Every year the crowd gets bigger and bigger! It’s so nice to see and makes me feel all warm and tingly inside honor all these children who simply have a love for reading.

After this past week, after seeing a new part of MA that I had yet to see, I am ready for a lighter week! It will still be quite busy as I am heading to the Little People’s College on Church St on both Monday and Tuesday – then I am heading to Rowley for a show on Wednesday morning at the library. I welcome the new Kindergarten class to the Carver Elementary School system on Thursday night. I was fortunate enough to be able to have my daughter tag along with me to Sharon Library. During lunch she said she wanted a cell phone… and a nose ring. She’s 6. Makes me laugh and want to cry at the same time! Hope everyone had a great vacation and is ready to tackle the last term of school this AM.

I am happy to report that I made it through another wonderful Bridgewater week – and I will be back next year! I have to say, the biggest compliments I received were from the 3rd graders who all asked if I would be telling stories to them the following year in 4th grade. Sadly, I had to tell them, I have yet to visit the middle school to tell my tales – but I said I’d be open to it. It just makes me feel good to know that even the older kids enjoy my stories too.

It’s even more exciting for me because, for just one week, I feel like I’m part of a community of the most friendly and welcoming teachers. They smile and get as excited as the children they teach that I am back and nothing makes me feel better then an entire school happy to have me return! So get ready Mitchell – I will be there first thing in the morning!
