March 2017

this week br

One of my favorite hobbies is birding. I don’t always have a moment to snap a pic but I am one of those people who just enjoys seeing the birds. I also keep a record of what, when and how many I have seen. To date I have seen 143 different kinds of birds including, just recently, seeing the very cool looking King Eider at the Canal this past week. Also, a Green Teal and a pair of Wood Ducks were spotted at the Grist Mill in Plymouth. Just in case anyone wants to take gander!

I return to the Mary K Goode School to finish up the Building Stories Workshop for the 4th grade – and then again for an evening with the entire school. I will be making a visit to Elm St School and Y World of Tots as well as Acushnet School, a few of the schools I get to see annually. There are no public shows this week but keep an eye on the Upcoming Shows page!

Raising a Reader has been set up for both Hanover (Starting in April) and Carver (starting in May) so call the libraries or South Shore Family Network at 508-747-7575 to register!

This was too good not to share it with everyone.  I have been visiting a school in Middleboro – presenting my Building Stories Workshop to the wonderful fourth graders there.  I am fortunate enough to be able to visit each classroom twice and today was the second trip to Mrs. Penney’s class.  There, one of the students asked if he could show me something after I was finished with the workshop that day.  I told him, “Of course, Bud!”

After we finished the young man presented some work/stories he had been working on about some of his favorite sports stars.  He said that he was inspired to do so after my first visit to thier class – after showing everyone how much fun writing can be.  I can’t tell you how amazing of a feeling it was to hear someone express their fondness for writing due to what you’ve said to them during class.  This is exactly WHY I started Building Stories and why I love the children who are able to take part in it.

Just a reminder that we are going to begin at 10:00am tomorrow for Raising a Reader rather than 10:30am.  See you then!

From warm and beautiful and then cold and beautiful to cold and crazy – this weather is insane! While the snow pours on and we wait for the rain I thought this would be a perfect time to update everyone about this week! While the snow has changed any plans I had for Tuesday (and on Pi days of all days!) I am still super busy this week with shows.

We were quite spoiled last week and now it’s been so bitingly uncomfortable outside! That being said we are continuing Raising a Reader at the Pembroke Library and we end this week with another Early Childhood Fair in Hanover! Thank you to all the people who came out last week to the Kingston Early Child Fair – it was a huge success! Also, last week’s Bedtime Stories, our weekly live video on Facebook, every Sunday at 7:00pm, was the most watched yet! So many people tuned in and a lot more people shouted out and said hello than any other week thus far! Thank you for tuning in – and keep coming back – we have mots more stories to share!

Lastly, we have now scheduled the Hanover Raising a Reader to begin in April – I will be making the announcement this week – call the library or South Shore Family Network (number below) to sign up!

Raising a Reader at the Pembroke Library has been a lot of fun so far – call the library to see if there is still space at 781-293-6771 or South Shore Family Network at 508-747-7575
