I remember gym class being much like this…

this week

The cold has certainly set in so make sure you stay warm! The winter has just begun! Hopefully it won’t be too bad this year but let’s not let it stop us from having some fun. Bundle up and get out there in the winter wonderland! Let’s try to keep everyone safe too – and in that vain:

We rescheduled the Building Stories Workshop this past Saturday due to the snow. We will be reconvening on Feb 6th at ending on Feb 13th at the the Plymouth Library at 1:00pm. Sorry for the inconvenience but this is New England so we’re used to this sort of thing!

If you would like to schedule a time for me to visit your school or library please give me a call at (508) 641-5336.

Here is the storytelling schedule for this week:

  • Tuesday: Kingston Library @ 10:30am *Raising a Reader, FINAL Week
  • Tuesday: Hingham Library @ 4:00pm *Raising a Reader, FINAL Week

All of the Raising a Reader programs are being funded by the South Shore Community Action Council and are an off-shoot of my Building Stories from the years prior. I am happy to bring back Book of the Month this year! This past week I discovered Float at the Hingham Library. It tells the story of a little boy with a newspaper boat but realizes just how well it floats! This is a sweet and sad story of discovery with a great and useful ending. Wordless picture books have always been my favorite of the genre and so useful in so many ways. This book explores a little boy’s rainy afternoon and the reality of what can happen with a running rain water and a street drain.

Check out this book today!

this week

I keep hearing this is the first week that the snow may force some rescheduling of my schedule. While that is always frustrating if you look outside it takes some of the edge off. It looks fantastic. My daughter was outside with me yesterday shoveling the driveway. She said “Dad, are we done? I think we’re done. My toes are about to fall off.” So, yeah – it was a bit cold! Make sure not to let that bother you enough to stop you from coming out to a show or two!

I will continue the Building Stories Workshop this Saturday at the Plymouth Library at 1:00pm. Call (508) 830-4250 to register today! There are only a couple of slots left so please register as soon as you possibly can!

this week

I have always enjoyed the brisk weather of January – although this January has been pretty mild – the only thing that I have to begrudgingly put up with is having to deal with the snow forcing the school or library to close and having to reschedule. I loved snow days as a kid… somehow they lost their luster when adulthood came rushing in. I still make the best out of the havoc the snow causes but still, I miss being a child and enjoying the bitter cold day of freedom that the snow allowed us.

hulk letter

Receiving emails like this never gets old:

“Hi Ryan,

I’m a nanny to two little ones and awhile back we finally saw you at the Corn Festival in Norwell. I wanted to say that your performance was amazing! These kids have a hard time making it through a regular story time or class, but when they saw you, they had the best time. I have never seen them so into a performance before! They were laughing and dancing along. I loved seeing them enjoying themselves so much and am excited that I have the opportunity to take the younger one to another of your performances in December. I just wanted to let you know that you have a great show and that the kids absolutely loved you.

Thanks!
Stephanie”

Thank you, Stephanie, for taking the time to brighten my day with such a thoughtful and wonderful note. Please accept my gracious and humbling thank you!

Writing the title of this post felt odd enough… 2016! I have now been telling my tales for 16 years. That’s quite the accomplishment. Allow me to take a moment to feel some pride! I’ve been able to turn something I love to do into a way of life – and I love every second of it!
