January 2015

My shows at the Steeple School this week are celebrating National School Choice Week and Wicked Local did a nice write up of the event.  Click on the Hulk above for the link and enjoy!

The snow has played a bit of havoc on the schedule this week.  The Preschool Building Stories for today has been cancelled – but will be rescheduled as soon as I get in touch with the librarian.  My Steeple School show on Tuesday, and even the Growth Unlimited show I had scheduled for yesterday and today are being moved to other days.  No worries though – people always work together when the weather hits us hard!

this week

2015 has been a mild winter but it looks as though we may be making up for it this week!  I am booked the entire week – so of course the snow would wait till now to make an appearance!  I don’t mind though – if I have something with me this week and have to reschedule just let me know as soon as you can and we will work something out!

I think I did a double posting of a cartoon – well, I will make up for it another time.  Here is a cartoon that teachers may be able to relate to.

 this week

Another week into 2015 and I have been feilding many calls for new winter shows – but also a ton of spring and even summer shows already!  I look forward to a new year of tales – but I also recieved one of the best emails!  It came from the Children’s Librarian at the Kingston Library who had a very special request:

“I am thinking forward to the summer (oh boy), and this year the theme is “Every Hero Has a Story” and I was wondering if you would like to do a one-session story telling (or writing) program around the HULK?

Thanks,

Stephanie

As most of you know, if you come to this site, I have been busy performing the Preschool Building Stories in many of the surrounding libraries.  Building Stories, though, started as a writing workshop for elementary school children from the first to fifth grade.  I love the writing workshop as I get to see children’s eyes get excited when given an assignment of creative writing.  They have the opportunity to create something straight from thier mind.  Now, with this challenge, I get to base the ideas around my favorite comic character of all time!  I will be discussing this with the Kingston Library a bit and secure a date for this super great idea!  Details to follow!

Also, speaking of the Building Stories, we are entering our third week of the workshops at the Carver and Plympton Library – so if you haven’t had a chance to come to one – let this be the week!  Here is this week’s schedule:

  • Wednesday: Bright Horizons at 10:00 & 10:30
  • Wednesday: Week 3 of Preschool Building Stories at the Carver Library at 4:30pm – This week: Making Puppets!
  • Thursday: Week 3 of Preschool Bilding Stories at the Plympton Library at 4:00pm – This week: Making Puppets!
  • Friday: ECDC Nursery School at 6:30pm
  • Saturday: Arnone School at 11:00am

As always, the Preschool Building Stories Workshops are open to the public and all are welcome to join whether you have come to earlier session or not! Please check the Upcoming Shows page for more information on all of these shows.

One of the things that I’ve been told is that my monster under the bed cartoons are the best.  While I don’t disagree I do like others better.  Of course with punchlines like this – how do you argue?

this week

I have a slow start to the week but I make up for it at the end.  As we roll into 2015 my voice-mail and email starts to fill up – which is always exciting!  I have a harder time keeping up sometimes but I am working on it.  Right now my February looks like it will be full of fun places to visit.  Keeping within this week though, the Preschool Building Stories chug along and then visiting Head Start to finish the week off.  Look at the schedule below:

  • Wednesday: Week 2 of Building Stories at the Carver Library – this week: PUPPETS!
  • Thursday: Week 2 of Building Stories at the Plympton Library – this week: PUPPETS!
  • Friday: Hull Family Network show at 10:00am
  • Friday: Triumph Head Start show at 2:00pm

As always, the Preschool Building Stories Workshops are open to the public and all are welcome to join whether you have come to earlier session or not! Please check the Upcoming Shows page for more information on all of these shows.

There are times I draw up a cartoon and it takes me back to my childhood.  I hated Rice Crispies and thought all of the cartoons where they said that the cereal “talked” to you made the thought of eating it repulsive.  That’s where the inspiration for this cartoon came from.

Anyone who knows or who has asked Big Ryan can tell you that he is one of the biggest Hulk fans there is.  He spotted this at his local library – and he said it made him smile.  So he wanted to share it with you for this week’s picture.  Now, go read or Hulk may SMASH!

 this week

Sometimes when you do something over and over it almost becomes a second nature and you do it without thinking.  As I was rushing through the holiday seasons I had a whole slew of Preschool Building Stories.  As much as I love doing them it was nice to have a small break from them so that the batteries can recharge!  Well, now they are full power and I am ready to go!  I am starting the Preschool Building Stories at the Carver and Plympton Library this week – both are afternoon (after school) opportunities to come and find new ways to enjoy telling stories at home!  More information is available on the Upcoming Shows page.

  • Wednesday: Carver Library @4:30pm – Preschool Building Stories (Week 1)
  • Thursday: Plympton Library @4:00pm – Preschool Building Stories (Week 2)
  • Friday: Lil’ Munchkins Day Care and Preschool

This is the first week of the Preschool Building Stories – but if you can’t make it, don’t worry, you can come to the second session (Week 2) and pick right up with what we’re doing!  Each week is a different subject and hilarious to boot!  First week we talk about how to do voices and sound effects into your story-times!

  2. Plympton
  3. Scituate
