After the Show

Norton 1

I really can’t say enough about the great crowds that I have seen this summer – maybe it has something to do with the disappointing weather – but I like to think it’s because people want to see me!  I’m a little delusional that way 🙂

The “Oh My Gosh, That was funny!” face…

But whatever the reason – I love seeing familiar faces at my shows and I always try to do something new – Norton will be seeing me again in August, and I have to thank Lee for sending me these great pics!

I am always so impressed at the crowds that show up, ready to listen to stories – but even more impressed at how lively they are when it’s time to get up and act silly, dancing around!  These pics were taken by Amy, the librarian – and there are a bunch more posted on Flickr – click the pics to see more.  Thanks to everyone who showed up and I look forward to my return visit in August!

Hi...my name is Joe by Weymouth Public Library.

Yes, Oxford is quite the drive – but after driving to Groton on Monday, Oxford seemed like nothing!  So, there was a generous group of children to hear the tales that beautiful Tuesday morning and I am happy to say – they were such a great group!  I had Charlie and Edgar come out to tell “Lost Bone” and, as always, had a wild time singing and dancing to “The Button Factory”.  I would take a 2 hour ride everyday if the audience was like this group of excited kids!

I wish there was more to talk about in May!  I’m so sorry – I feel as though I’ve been ignoring the visitors to my site.  I have 2 great posts for you today – the first is about the Wilmington Library that I visited last Saturday.  Great show!  Great crowd!  There was a nice mix of older and younger kids who all enjoyed “Sarah’s Little Brother” and said hello to Charlie and Edgar and Alligator!

The Bunny Bird

Yes, the pictures are a little blurry – but that doesn’t change the fact that this show, last Friday, was a great return to one of my favorite towns.  I had last told stories in Groveland about 2 years ago – and my return brought a nice, big crowd of kids who all giggled their way through “The Bunny Bird”.  I was so happy to meet the new Librarian – well, new to me anyways – and she made me feel so comfortable coming back.  All in all – a nice, perfect day!

Today both the librarian and I were a little worried that we weren’t going to see many faces for the show.  It was a drizzly, cloudy morning and even I would have liked to stay in bed just a little bit longer!  But to my surprise we had many, many people come to see my Tall Tales!  It was wonderful, the whole room is filled to the rafters with smiling kids ready to laugh and giggle through the stories.

TELLING THE STORY

The Button Song!

The trip this morning was kind of nice.  It’s still a bit chilly in the morning so I like driving in the car as it gets all warm – staying dry as the rain drops cover my windshield.  It was even better when a nice ride is complimented with a fun show!  The best part of the morning though…?   I’ll admit it – it was the coffee roll and chocolate milk I stopped for on the way there!

I had so much fun today!  The event was wonderful – I saw plenty of fans come out for the show – and, as much as people may complain about the weather – it was perfect for the fair because it brought people inside!  A lot of great entertainers were there – all who did a fantastic job capturing the kid’s attention!  It was a pleasure to be a part of this fun day – and I had many people settle down and listen to Max and Charlie – as well as Wolf and Moose – and I had a lot of fun doing the “Popsicle Song” where one of the little girls offered the suggestion of a “Taco Popsicle!”  I could hear Taco Bell taking notes as we all sang!  Here is a shot of the kids waiting in line to shake my alligator’s hand!

Having Fun at the Expo!

Hi My Name is Joe

Here are the Kids dancing around – having a wild time singing and dancing along!  Thanks again to all of the familiar faces who came to the shows!

I have been fortunate enough to visit the George H. Mitchell Elementary School for the past six years – and this year was just as great!  I was able to tell my stories to the Preschool through Third Grade – I do 5 to 6 shows a day Monday – Friday – and it was fantastic to see all of my favorite teachers and children again!  Walking through the halls listening to all of the kids shout out my name, excited that I am there, is such a joy!  I will be there again next year – and I’m already looking forward to it!

Welcoming Sign

I was so surprised and honored to be part of the Neary School’s book week celebration that invites an Author, an Illustrator and a Storyteller (ME!) to share their talents with the kids there!  The 4th and 5th graders were wonderful audiences – they got to hear one of my favorite stories to tell “Timmy” and I was even able to spend my lunch with a select group of children from each grade who asked me a few questions about my stories and where I came up with the ideas and such.  Thank you for the wonderful time Neary School!

Hanson 1

I was lucky enough to visit Hanson this past Saturday where a nice group of families came to see me and my puppets Wolf and Moose and Alligator.  I had a great time – and from how the laughter never stopped I’m going to go ahead and say that the kids had a great time too!  I had so much fun – and even learned that the librarian’s son is a writer for Marvel Comics – which makes a comic geek like me drool!
