Book of the Month

Title: Hop on Pop
Author: Dr. Suess
Publisher: Beginner Books

With Dr Seuss’ Birthday being just around the corner I thought it only appropriate that I choose one of the better – if not the best – Beginner Books.  I also love Go, Dog. Go! but this one has that one beat!  The simple play on words and rhythmic tone is only one of the reasons to introduce Dr. Seuss’ books to your children – the other reason is so that you can enjoy them all over again too!

Title: Two Old Potatoes and Me
Author: John Coy
Publisher: Alfred A Knopf

This is another case where I waiting for a show to begin at a library and picked up this book. I loved it right away! As I have mentioned before, I love books that can teach you something at the same time as entertain – and this book delivers in spades!  This story is about a daughter and father that find a couple of old potatoes – and instead of throwing them away – they plant them!  Told from May to September watch as the perfectly illustrated book gives you a great account of how to make a gross discovery into a positive learning experience!

Title: Sitting Down to Eat
Author: Bill Harley
Publisher: Scholastic

Bill Harley has always been a huge influence on my work as a storyteller – so much so that I like to incorporate some of his amazing work into my shows!  This is one of my favorite ways to start my show – a great and rhythmically pleasing tale about unexpected guests that come for a little dinner!  Click on the image – or any of the links – to find out more about Bill Harley!

Title: Snowball Fight!
Author: Jimmy Fallon
Publisher: Scholastic

I had an idea for a December book – but then I was given this great book by the wonderful people at Garden of Knowledge at the Christmas party .  Written by the very funny Jimmy Fallon – you might know him as the host of the Late Show on NBC.  Before he became the host though – he wrote this charming and hilarious look at a kid’s snow day adventure with his friends and a neighborhood wide snowball fight!

 Title: Chalk
Author: Bill Thomson
 Publisher: Marshall Cavendish Children

Here is another excellent example of a Librarian offering an amazing selection for my Book of the Month.  This is a creative picture book that Lex and I enjoyed while at the Plymouth Library.  Picture books are some of my favorite books out there – they are so beneficial to children – helping them use their imaginations and forcing teachers to use their’s as well!  Check this book out today – you won’t be sorry!

Title: How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin
Author: Margaret McNamara
Publisher: Schwartz and Wade

I love Pumpkins! I love pumpkins WAY more than anyone I know – and books about pumpkins are even better!  Books that make learning about something seem easy and fun are the best kind – and this is certainly up there with one of the best!  Check it out today – especially if you love pumpkins the way I do!

Title: Scarecrow
Author: Cynthia Rylant
Publisher: Sandpiper Press

I forgot to post a book of the month in August – and have been doing some major work on the site – now I almost forgot to post a book for September – but I remembered at the last moment!  Now, in honor of my fall story “The Scared Crow” I am highlighting a book that I love called The Scarecrow.  This is a quiet, sweet book that adults may enjoys – even more than their children do!  Check it out today!

Title: Punk Farm
Author: Jarrett J Krosoczka
Publisher: Alfred A. Knopf

I remember very fondly that a librarian from the Braintree Library raved and raved about this series of books.  I read it and laughed out loud all the way through it!  It’s a fantastic and hilarious look at what the farm animals are up to when the farmer goes to sleep!  This popular book is so good that Dreamworks is looking into making it a feature film!  Make sure you click on the title above to be brought to the official site – which is loads of fun!

forever young

Title: Forever Young
Author: Bob Dylan
Publisher: Ginee Seo Books

Does anyone else watch Parenthood and think it’s one of the best shows ever?  Because it is!  One of my favorite parts is the theme song – and what a treat to see that said theme song is also now a children’s book!  A fantastic, visually fun(for both adults and kids), poetic book!  I am not usually a fan of “celebrity” children’s books – but this one os worth every penny!

Title: Ubiquitous
Author: Joyce Sidman
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Books for Children

For this very special month – the month of my Birthday! (the 28th for anyone wondering) I usually pick out a very special book – a book I really enjoy.  This book entitled Ubiquitous is amazing – to think about how old our planet is and to take a look at some of the first things to appear!  I love educational books that are beautiful to look at and fun to read.  This is an amazing book to check out.
