Summer had a late start this year but now that it is here I am so much happier! I do love working, I love telling my tales, and I am never busier than in the summer! Even though summer technically stated June 21st, my real summer events started this week. I was at the Holmes Library on Monday, and even though it was a smaller crowd, I enjoy seeing the older kids in my audience.

As I continue telling tales, year after year, it seems like people think storytelling is strictly for the Preschool/Kindergarten crowds. This is so untrue! Seeing the elementary school aged kids in the group was so refreshing and to watch them genuinely listening and enjoying Abiyoyo was even better! Afterwards, I even caught up with the mother who brought the boys who informed me that she still remembers bringing the kids to Bridgewater shows. So, they have been fans for YEARS!

Tuesday I visited a place that has become almost a second home. The South Shore Natural Science Center. Years ago, the YMCA bought the property, and I’ve always been impressed how the place still feels like it did 26 years ago. Even though the people have all changed, the drive to get kids outside and discover the magic of nature around them hasn’t.

I did two shows, one for the younger groups and then another for the older campers. Thankfully we were able to salvage enough shade for the first show to enjoy an outdoor storytelling in the amphitheater. The little ones enjoyed my version of Abiyoyo and Edgar and Uncle Charlie. The shade, unfortunately, disappeared before the second show but we were able to collect into the great hall and the older kids had an air conditioned storytelling time. They heard “Cupcakes” – my version of Bill Harley’s Moon Pies, and followed up with Abiyoyo once again.

On Thursday I was able to battle a bit of traffic to make it to Harwich and tell my tales at Brooks Free Library. I had quite a few parents and children tell me they look forward to seeing me every year! One girl mentioned she has seen me for the last five years! I graced this older crowd with “Cupcakes” and even debuted the new Edgar and Uncle Charlie looking extra fluffy!

Next week is really amping up and I am looking forward to every second of it!

My daughter turned 17 this past Sunday. It really does seem unreal, but I love seeing the quick-witted, beautiful, and smart little lady turn into a full-grown person. This week I will be traveling all over the place, mostly to schools with a few Traveling Mystery Rooms thrown in for good measure! Make sure to sign up if you haven’t yet!
