My wife and daughter (and I) spent this beautiful day at Fenway – it was really nice to have a day to relax! Looks like summer is filling up fast and open dates are becoming more scarce… So if you’re interested in having Big Ryan’s Tall Tales come to your school or library – CALL TODAY!

The summer is filling up fast!  Make sure you call today to book your summer date!  Big announcements coming up – plus a few rescheduled show dates and a new Building Stories Workshop.  Coming soon!

I am so saddened by the news of today’s events.  I can’t even begin to try to put it into words but I seriously thank my lucky stars that I had everyone I love in this world so close to me and safe.  Unfortunately, others were not so lucky.  My heart goes out to all of the families who were distressed and overwhelmed by today’s events.

I was scheduled to appear at the surrounding Boston Libraries this week and will keep everyone up to date on whether or not the shows will still go on.  I hope they do.  I think that children’s laughter and innocence, at times like this, is so important.  I dedicate all the shows this week to any of the people and families affected by today’s tragedy.

Title: Who Wants a Cheap Rhinoceros?
Author: Shel Silverstein
Illustrator: Shel Silverstein
Publisher: Simon and Schuster

How can you deny the classics – like ANYTHING by Shel. Shel was the man. He wrote a lot – some was good – some was great and very little was terrible. I wish I had met him in real life. This was written in a different time – late 60’s I think – so make sure you read this very funny book about a boy trying to sell you a cheap rhinoceros – all the good points and some of the bad ones… all hilarious but some out of date. Still, a treasure in any child’s library!

Massassoit Community College Child Care is kicking off the week of the young child tonight – with a 6:30 show by me!  Come and have a blast – I have it on good authority that there will be top of the line cheese and crackers there – as well as Big Ryan fun!  Come and have a blast!

I don’t usually share two of these so close – but this story really made my day.

I was finishing up a show and the teachers asked if they could get a picture with me and all the kids.  I said “Of course!” and all the children crowded around me.  One little boy, standing next to me, smiled at me and said

“You smell good Big Ryan, you should smell yourself!”

It made me laugh.

This one came from my sister in law who told me that, while at work, she was riding the elevator and a man began talking about a birthday party he attended over the weekend.  The man said that the party was crazy with all the children running around like maniacs.  He then said “…and then this storyteller guy came in and there wasn’t a sound out of those kids.  They were mesmerized!”

My sister in law asked “Was the storyteller Big Ryan’s Tall Tales?”

He acknowleged that it was and said “Do you know him?”

“He’s my brother in law.”

“How does he do that?”

“It’s a mystery to all of us.” She said back.

Even after a wonderful week at Bridgewater I am still booked solid this weekend with 2 shows!  First up is the 10:30 show at the Fiske Library in Wrenthem!  This is my first visit to the Fiske Library – I am looking forward to it!  Click on the image above for more info!

After that I am heading toward Attleboro for a 2:45 show at the Attleboro Arts Museum Annual Flower show!  Make sure you make time to come by and see the beautiful sights, the amazing floral displays and of course buy some flowers to bring home to plant in your garden!  Come on by and let it feel like Spring!  Click the image for more info!

I am a fan of top ten lists – especially when they give great advice – like keeping the kids off soda… not to mention adults.  Click on the can for the link!
